NATIONAL SUMMARY

While much of the nation experienced quiet weather Wednesday, parts
of the South remained active. A storm system produced numerous
clusters of thunderstorms across central parts of Texas Wednesday
afternoon and evening, which then organized into a squall line later
Wednesday night into Thursday morning across eastern Texas and
Louisiana. Numerous reports of hail and wind damage were noted across
central and eastern parts of the Lone Star State, along with several
confirmed reports of tornadoes. The storm system responsible for
severe weather Wednesday into Thursday will once again aid in the
development of thunderstorms, locally severe, across South Texas, as
well as parts of the Southeast, into Thursday night. While some
storms can still produce a tornado, the main threat will shift to
more of a flash flooding and strong wind gust situation. The same
storm system will spread a swath of rain across the mid-Atlantic
states Thursday night into Friday. Meanwhile, a strong area of high
pressure resulted in a very warm to hot Wednesday across interior
sections of the West, with temperatures running a good 10-15 degrees
above average across interior California Wednesday afternoon. The
heat will continue to build across the West through the rest of the
week, with some locations across the San Joaquin Valley climbing into
the triple digits Thursday and Friday. Not only will California
continue to heat up, but the heat will also expand northward into the
Pacific Northwest, with Portland soaring well into the 90s Friday and
even Seattle making a run at 90 degrees.

SPECIAL WEATHER

Record Heat in the West

A building area of high pressure over the West Coast will promote
very warm to hot weather from California northward to Washington
through the end of the week. Several locations across the interior
valley of central California will soar into the triple digits
Thursday and Friday, shattering record highs. The heat will continue
to expand northward into the Pacific Northwest Friday with widespread
80s and 90s. An offshore flow will even push the heat all the way to
the coast of central and Southern California.
