'Twilight' stars hit the red carpet for premiere
Wednesday, November 18, 2009
Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner may be the big stars of "The Twilight Saga: New Moon," but it was a couple of hairy beasts who almost stole the spotlight at Monday night's premiere party at L.A.'s Hammer Museum, Eonline.com reports.

Outside of the Volturi-inspired bash, under a tent designed to look like a forest, were two -- ready for this? -- real-life timberwolves. They were kept at a safe distance from guests behind a fence.

After the film received a standing ovation, Pattinson and Stewart headed to the party, but they didn't enter through the front door. With fandemonium still going on in the streets, the two were said to have snuck in via an underground entrance.

"Everyone surrounded Rob the entire night," one party guest reports. "He was literally swarmed by fans, but he handled himself extremely well."

Like he did this time last year at the "Twilight" party, Pattinson pretty much stayed at his table. He was all smiles as he signed autographs and took pics with who knows how many of the 2,200 people at the invite-only bash.

While Stewart looked pretty amazing on the red carpet in an Oscar de la Renta gown, she wasn't having it at the party and changed into more casual comfy clothes. Unfortunately, Kellan Lutz had some problems getting into the bash because security apparently didn't recognize him. Luckily, Lutz didn't have to get all Emmett on them -- he was allowed in after fans began chanting, "Let him in!"

In an ironic twist, Lutz plucked two fans from the crowd earlier in the evening and gave them tickets to the premiere.

Elton John says he's back on his feet after being sidelined for the flu and an E. coli bacterial infection.

The entertainer spoke about his recovery before Monday's annual benefit for the Elton John AIDS Foundation, which honored former President Bill Clinton and Sharon Stone among others.

"The worst thing about being in the hospital was that, actually, it's the first time I've been in bed for about nine days in the whole of my life, except for maybe when I had my tonsils out," he said. "So, I was all right. I had a good rest; I didn't expect it. The worst thing was having to cancel shows. I hate that. But I'm back on my feet and I'm bouncing around now."

The event, entitled "An Enduring Vision," honored Clinton, Evelyn and Leonard Lauder, Lily Safra and Stone.

The Elton John AIDS Foundation in part aims to fund innovative HIV prevention programs and to eliminate stigma and discrimination associated with HIV/AIDS.

John said the current economic crisis makes his work harder, but stressed the need to continue in the fight against the disease.

Among those in attendance were Anderson Cooper, Tony Bennett and Daniel Craig.

A judge has granted a civil restraining order against a man accused of stalking Ryan Seacrest.

The order issued yesterday requires Chidi Benjamin Uzomah Jr. to stay 100 yards away from the radio and television personality. A criminal court judge granted a similar order against Uzomah earlier this month.

The 25-year-old remains in a Los Angeles jail, charged with felony stalking. He was arrested outside Seacrest's workplace on Oct. 30, just weeks after he pleaded guilty to misdemeanor charges in Orange County, Calif., stemming from an incident with Seacrest's bodyguard after an event.

Seacrest, who hosts "American Idol," did not attend the court hearing in Los Angeles.

Uzomah has pleaded not guilty to stalking Seacrest.

The 26-year-old man charged with trying to extort $100,000 from former supermodel Cindy Crawford has surrendered, German prosecutors said yesterday.

Edis Kayalar walked into a police station late Monday to give himself up, according to prosecutors in Stuttgart. He has been charged in Los Angeles with one count of extortion. If convicted, he could face up to two years in prison.

A U.S. attorney's spokesman said the U.S. has not formally requested Kayalar's extradition and he did not know when that would occur.

Kayalar allegedly threatened to release a photo of Crawford's daughter gagged and tied to a chair when she was 7 years old. According to court papers, the girl says a former nanny took the picture as part of a "cops and robbers" game.

Viacom Inc. says it has won exclusive rights in the U.S. to air "Michael Jackson's This Is It" on its MTV and BET cable networks starting in 2011.

The Sony Pictures film, featuring rehearsal footage from the London concerts Jackson was planning when he died in June, has already pulled in $200 million in worldwide box office returns.

Viacom, led by Sumner Redstone, said yesterday its rights to the movie last six years and cover all of the domestic cable channels in its MTV and BET networks division. Terms were not disclosed.
