A look back at yesterday and how it shaped the 2009 college football landscape.
Three teams in the top 10 of the Bowl Championship Series standings lost yesterday, but we're still waiting for that big upset at the top to stir up some controversy. Iowa, No. 4 in the BCS, No. 8 Oregon and No. 9 LSU went down yesterday, but the same three teams that have been at the top of the polls since early September -- Florida, Texas and Alabama -- remain there today thanks to another late Alabama comeback against LSU. None of three play another ranked foe until conference championship weekend. Florida and Alabama have already clinched their divisions and will meet in the SEC title game. If both win out, the winner will face Texas, if it remains unbeaten, for all the marbles.
Julio Jones reeling in a sideline pass from Greg McElroy and racing 73 yards for the winning touchdown with 10:24 remaining in Alabama's 24-15 victory against LSU.
TCU moves up in the BCS standings after its 55-12 victory against San Diego State. A few more upsets and the Frogs can talk national title.
Iowa's magic finally ran out in a 17-10 home loss to Northwestern. The Hawkeyes' national title hopes are doomed, but they can still win the Big Ten.
What a two weeks it has been for Michigan State running back Ashton Leggett.
The 235-pound sophomore was practicing with Michigan State's scout team. Then came word two of his roommates -- fellow running backs Caulton Ray and Andre Anderson -- had been taken off the team's active roster.
By yesterday, Leggett, who had all of one carry and no yards for the season, found himself one of two featured backs in a game against Western Michigan.
All he did was run for a 71-yard touchdown on his first carry and amass 110 yards and four scores in a 49-14 thrashing of the Broncos.
On his first carry of the game, Leggett bounced outside and was gone down the left sideline.
