Man arrested in church burglary

An arrest has been made in the burglary Friday evening of the Olivet Baptist Church at 2312 Centre Avenue in the Hill District.

Arthur Freedom, 49, was charged with burglary, theft, and receiving stolen property.

A burglary was reported to city police at 8:47 p.m. Friday.

A news release from police said a speaker that had been recently donated to the church had been stolen.

A witness later told police that a man attempted to sell him a speaker. Mr. Freedom was questioned and admitted to police that he had stolen the speaker and two witnesses also identified Mr. Freedom has a man who tried to sell them a speaker, according to a news release from police.
