A judge yesterday sentenced two of four men convicted in the robbery and killing of a retired Washington County police chief and his wife last year.
County President Judge Debbie O'Dell Seneca sentenced Justin J. Welch, 22, of Charleroi, to 20 to 40 years in prison for a variety of crimes.
He had previously pleaded guilty to two counts of conspiracy to commit homicide in the deaths of Howard and Nancy Springer on March 4, 2008.
She sentenced Tecko D. Tartt, 23, of Donora, to 71?2 to 15 years on charges of failure to disperse, possession with intent to deliver and two counts each of robbery and conspiracy to commit robbery.
A third accomplice, Gregory M. Carpenter, 54, of Charleroi, was sentenced Monday to two to four years.
The final defendant, Gerald L. Szakal Jr., 26, of Rostraver, is to be sentenced this afternoon. A jury found him guilty earlier this month of two counts of second-degree murder, robbery, theft and other crimes.
