New committee to look at budget issues in Moon Area
Tuesday, October 27, 2009

The Moon Area school board will create a citizens' committee to look at budget issues in search of innovations and possible savings.

The school board last night approved the concept, something superintendent Donna Milanovich did during her tenure in Baldwin-Whitehall.

"It's a healthy process," she said. "When it works the way it's supposed to, you get a group with a healthy understanding of what you can and can't do."

Business manager Al Bennett presented a plan for a 12-member committee, with two members each from six constituencies in the community. Board members are going to come up with some names of their own and the district will advertise for people who would like to be members. The board then will make the appointments.

The committee will get non-proprietary budget information and will be asked to look for creative ways to use money efficiently.

"You end up with a group of people who really understand the process and problems you face," Mr. Bennett said. "You might get something you can use, and you might not."
