Treat your family to Halloween fun in the South suburbs

Uh, oh. It's time for those creatures who go boo in the night to appear at your front door, hat -- and treat bag -- in hand.

So that you may get ready for the upcoming big night (or nights), we have prepared a list of trick-or-treat times and other holiday events in communities in the South Hills and Washington County.

So, get out those chocolate bars, turn on the porch light and enjoy fright night -- and a parade or two.

Baldwin Borough

Trick-or-treat, 6-8 p.m., Oct. 31

The borough will hold its Halloween Festival from 1 to 3 p.m. Oct. 31 at the Municipal Building, 3344 Churchview Ave. with a pumpkin patch, games, Moonwalk, train and refreshments. Visit www.baldwinborough.org.

Baldwin Borough Public Library will hold Halloween Fun Fright Night, a party for elementary-age children. Come in costume at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 28. Registration is required by calling the library at 412-885-2255.

Baldwin Township

Trick-or-treat, 6-8 p.m., Oct. 31

The township will hold a costume Halloween Parade for the children at 3 p.m. that day, with lineup at the community building, 10 Community Park Drive. Visit www.baldwintownship.com.

Bethel Park

Trick-or-treat, 6-8 p.m., Oct. 31

Bethel Park Public Library will hold a Boo Bash at 7 p.m. Saturday for all ages with games and stories. Families are welcome. Come in costume. Call to register, 412-835-2207.

Brentwood

Trick-or-treat, 6-8 p.m., Oct. 31

A Halloween parade will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Moore Elementary School, 3809 Dalewood Street.

Children can make "Lurking Luminaries" at Brentwood Public Library at 7 p.m. Oct. 30. Come in costume and bring a two liter soda bottle and two bottle caps for the project. Registration is required; call the library at 412-882-5694 or visit www.brentwoodchildren.blogspot.com.

Bridgeville

Trick-or-treat, 6-8 p.m., Oct. 31

The Pittsburgh Paranormal Society will give a presentation on what paranormal investigation entails and how one is conducted at Bridgeville Public Library at 7 p.m. Saturday. Space is limited and registration is required. Call the library at 412-221-3737. All ages are welcome for a book reading and brunch with author Jim Struzzi II, who will read from his book "Jacob's Haunting," at 10 a.m. Oct. 31 at the library. Castle Shannon

Trick-or-treat, 6-8 p.m., Oct. 31

A Halloween parade will begin at the library at 2 p.m. Sunday and end back at the library for trick-or-treating. Turn in a decorated pumpkin to the library by 4 p.m. Saturday for the pumpkin-decorating contest. Judging will take place before the parade and the winner will be announced at the conclusion of the parade. Visit www.castleshannonlibrary.org.

Trick-or-treat, 6-8 p.m., Oct. 31

Dormont

Trick-or-treat, 6-8 p.m., Oct. 31

Dormont Library will have a story time for preschoolers through kindergarten at 10:30 a.m. Oct. 28. Come in costume for crafts, stories and refreshments. No registration is required.

Dravosburg

Trick-or-treat, 6-8 p.m., Oct. 31

Halloween parade is at 5 p.m. that day at the borough building on Maple Avenue.

Duquesne

Trick-or-treat, 5:30-7 p.m., Oct. 31

Elizabeth Borough

Trick-or-treat, 6-8 p.m., Oct. 31

The borough's Halloween Parade is 7 p.m. Monday. Lineup begins at 6:30 p.m. at Second and Plum streets.

Elizabeth Township

Trick-or-treat, 6-8 p.m.., Oct. 31

Forward Township

Trick-or-treat, 6-8 p.m., Oct. 31

Glassport

Trick-or-treat, 6-8 p.m., Oct. 31

A Halloween parade for children ages 10 and under steps off at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at the bank on Sixth Street and Monongahela Avenue. The borough building is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. for residents to pick up a number for the child's costume. The parade continues to the Glassport Honor Roll Memorial Park, where the costumes will be judged. The Fall Festival will be held 1 to 10 p.m. Saturday and is hosted by Citizens Hose Company No. 1, 525 Allegheny Ave. There will be games, hayrides, food and activities.

n South Allegheny Middle School students in seventh and eighth grade will be "Trick-or-treating for the Troops" in partnership with two dentists from West View.

Students will collect candy on Halloween and then bring unwrapped goodies to school on Nov. 2. The candy will then be shipped to troops overseas.

Green Tree

Trick-or-treat, 6-8 p.m., Oct. 31

The Green Tree Halloween Parade and Party will be held from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Sunday at the Green Tree Fire Hall. Come in costume. The Green Tree library will have pumpkin carving between 4 and 8 p.m. Saturday. Select a pumpkin from the library's pumpkin patch to carve and decorate. Bring your own carving knife. The program is open to all, but children under the age of 14 must be supervised by an adult. Registration is required by Sunday. The library will also hold a story time and costume parade from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. next Thursday. Visit www.greentreelibrary.org.

Homestead

Trick-or-treat, 6-7:30 p.m., Oct. 31

Jefferson Hills

Trick-or-treat, 6-8 p.m., Oct. 31

The Jefferson Hills Library has two story times on Wednesday: For preschoolers at 2 p.m. and for older children from 7 to 8 p.m. Wear your costumes. Registration is required by calling the library at 412-655-7741.

Liberty

Trick-or-treat, 6-8 p.m., Oct. 31

Lincoln

Trick-or-treat, 6-8 p.m., Oct. 31

McKeesport

Mt. Lebanon

Trick-or-treat, 6-8 p.m., Oct. 31

The Boo Parade will be held at 11 a.m. Oct. 31. Lineup is at Mt. Lebanon Cemetery, 509 Washington Road. The library will hold Fright Night from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. tomorrow, with crafts, games, story times and refreshments. Kid ages 8 and up, teens and adults can learn the steps to Michael Jackson's "Thriller."

Mount Oliver

Trick-or-treat, 2-4 p.m., Oct. 31

Munhall

Trick-or-treat, 6-7:30 p.m., Oct. 31

Halloween parade begins at 3 p.m. that day at Roberta and Main streets, ending at Munhall Fire Department No. 4. Participants receive a treat bag along the route and there are refreshments at the end. Visit www.munhallpa.us.

Also, students at Park Elementary will be raising money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

At 1 p.m. Oct. 30, they will march in their Halloween parade with pledged donations. The goal is to raise $3,400.

The parade route is from Park Elementary to First Commonwealth Bank, the Met House, Sherman's Pharmacy and then return to school. Call 412-464-3600, ext. 4505.

Peters

Trick-or-treat, 6-8 p.m., Oct. 31

Peters Township Library will hold Halloween Monster Madness from 6:30 to 7:15 p.m. next Thursday, with crafts, treats and stories for all ages and parents. Costumes are optional. Registration required by calling the library at 724-941-9430. Visit www.ptlibrary.org.

Pleasant Hills

Trick-or-treat, 6-8 p.m., Oct. 31

The annual Halloween parade sponsored by the Pleasant Hills Lions Club is 6:30 p.m. Tuesday with lineup at Pleasant Hills Community Presbyterian Church.

Pleasant Hills Library will hold a Family Night Pumpkin Carving Workshop at 6:30 p.m. Monday. Bring your own pumpkin. Registration is required by calling the library, 412-655-2424. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Port Vue

Trick-or-treat, 6-8 p.m., Oct. 31

Halloween parade is 1-3 p.m. that day. Lineup begins at the Athletic Association at 12:45 p.m.

Scott

Trick-or-treat, 6-8 p.m., Oct. 31

The library will hold a family Halloween party 6:30 to 8 p.m. Oct. 30. There will be creepy crafts, cranky music and crawly games. Come in costume. Registration is required by Wednesday.

South Park

Trick-or-treat, 6-8 p.m., Oct. 31

Tomorrow at 6:30 p.m., library will hold a "Goosebumps" program at 6:30 p.m. Registration is required by calling the library at 412-833-5585. At 1 p.m. Wednesday, story teller Judy Seely will share holiday stories for all ages. The Peace of Mind Paranormal Society will discuss local haunted houses on at 6:30 p.m. next Thursday. Upper St. Clair

"Celebrate Halloween" will be held by Upper St. Clair Library during regular library hours on Saturday and Sunday. Families can make Halloween crafts and decorations. No registration is required.

Monster Night at the library will be 6:30 to 8 p.m. next Thursday in the Children's Library for kids ages 4 and older with an adult. The night includes Halloween games and art activities. For the "monster brain" craft, please bring a pair of pantyhose. Registration is required; call 412-835-5540.

Versailles

Trick-or-treat, 6-8 p.m., Oct. 31

Halloween parade is 3 p.m. Saturday for children and pets in costume. The parade steps off at the First Street playground and ends at the borough building. Please only bring pets that are non-aggressive and leashed.

West Elizabeth

Trick-or-treat, 6-8 p.m., Oct. 31

West Homestead

Trick-or-treat, 6-7:30 p.m., Oct. 31

Halloween parade is at 5 p.m. Oct. 31. The route begins at the West Homestead borough building and ends at the volunteer fire department.

West Mifflin

Trick-or-treat, 6-7:30 p.m. Oct. 31

Whitaker

Whitehall

For adults, Whitehall Public Library will hold a "Halloween Happening" from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. next Thursday, which includes a buffet lunch and ghost stories told by guest readers and storytellers. Tickets are $5 and must be purchased in advance from the library.

For children, the library will have a Halloween party from 1 to 3 p.m. Oct. 31, which includes crafts, food, stories and more. $2 per child. Come in costume. Register online at www.whitehallpubliclibrary.org.
