Duquesne University men's basketball player B.J. Monteiro, who was arrested over the weekend along with two others in his home state of Connecticut in connection with a theft that occurred Aug. 7 at a house party, has been suspended indefinitely by coach Ron Everhart.
"We are very disappointed in B.J.'s lack of judgment and hope it does not negatively affect the other student-athletes in our program," Everhart said. "With that said, he has been suspended pending the outcome of the legal proceedings."
Monteiro, a sophomore, and the other two men were released each on $5,000 non-surety bonds and are scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 13 for the theft of an iPod, laptop computer and a small amount of cash with a total value of $1,400.
"It is out hope that B.J. learns a valuable lesson from this unfortunate situation and can return to our program in the near future," Everhart said.
