Gender-tainment, the tour, is coming to a store near you.
Traveling in a rock star-style tour bus, Lane Home Furnishings' Gender-tainment Interior Design Showcase arrives at Levin Furniture in Monroeville today to sing the praises of gender-specific entertainment centers from "the ultimate man-cave to the perfect she-den."
Lane says the nationwide tour, which will remain in Monroeville through tomorrow, is an opportunity for Americans to celebrate their design independence and explore their unique style.
The tour's star -- a 1,000-square-foot, custom-built, 18-wheel mobile showroom containing three "rooms" -- is the brainchild of the appropriately named Robert Idol, Lane's vice president of corporate design.
He aims to share all that he knows about putting a room together to satisfy both the aesthetic and practical sides of its occupants, which can be especially tricky when it comes to his and her notions of what an entertainment/family room should look like.
Mr. Idol, who is responsible for the interior design of all Lane showrooms, knows the secrets of compromise.
However, that's not apparent in his version of the man cave, with its New York Yankees-dominated decor, overstuffed leather recliners and big-screen TV.
The she-den is more gender-neutral, with a comfortable sofa, floral curtains and flowers and fruit atop a dark-wood coffee table.
This one-of-a-kind display includes a computerized survey so shoppers can determine which furnishings fit their personal style.
There's also a chance to win thousands of dollars in prizes and furniture. If your family room is where you'll be vacationing this year, this tour might just be the ticket.
