Summer in the city got a lift Saturday night when the Pittsburgh Opera hosted its 1-2-3 Summer Party, a casual gathering of friends, board members and new supporters. The event was held at the Mount Washington home of Steve Karlovich and Peter Herforth -- otherwise known as the Smart House -- that the couple so generously open to many nonprofits for benefits. With the garden at its peak and the view a perennial stunner, the guests picked a perfect night to sip sangria and nibble flank steak. But the high note came from a performance by Pittsburgh Opera resident artist Liam Moran and his girlfriend, soprano Kathryn Skemp.
A new twist was the presence of board members of Attack Theatre, which recently moved into Pittsburgh Opera's Strip District headquarters. The two organizations have similar space requirements, which makes the sharing arrangement both logical and practical. Celebrating summer were Opera general director Christopher Hahn with Ron Booth, board chair Michele Fabrizi, Attack's Donna Goyak and Rebecca Himberger, Camille and Harry Goern, Manny Reich with Debra Stahl, Dale and Alvin Filstrup, Dolly Warwick, Dr. Larry Leahy, Tim McVay and David Bush, Virginia and John DiPucci, Dr. John and Bonnie Kristofic. Sheri and Rob Sciabassi, Nachum Golan and Steve Hough, Richard Parsakian, Fred and Lana Neumeyer, Dr. William and Lydi Poller, Virginia and Arthur Kerr Jr., and Pat Ferragonio.
