Armstrong County teen dies in traffic accident
Sunday, September 07, 2008

An Armstrong County teenager died in a solo car accident last night in Allegheny Township, Westmoreland County.

Emily Marie Blystone, 17, of Kiskiminetas Township, was traveling west in a residential neighborhood on state Route 4048 when her right front tire slid off the roadway onto gravel, causing her to lose control of her mother's 1997 Ford Explorer. She struck a culvert and drove into a grassy area, hitting a large oak tree, according to Westmoreland County Deputy Coroner Jerry Fritz, who pronounced her dead at the scene.

A neighbor heard the crash about 8:20 p.m. and reported it to 911. Allegheny Township police responded and were conducting an investigation. Ms. Blystone, a senior at Lenape Tech in Ford City, was entrapped in the vehicle. Firefighters removed her. She died as a result of multiple blunt force injuries, according to the deputy coroner.

She was not wearing a seat belt. Toxicology results are pending.
