Saturday, September 06, 2008

Lyle Marsh and Erik Olson each accounted for two touchdowns and led the Post-Gazette's second-ranked team in WPIAL Class AAAA, Bethel Park, to a 20-13 non-conference win last night at No. 4 Penn Hills.

Marsh caught a 36-yard touchdown pass from Olson in the first quarter to give Bethel Park (2-0) a 7-0 lead.

Penn Hills (0-2) responded in the second when Tom Fulton threw a 4-yard scoring pass to Brandon Ifill. Bethel Park blocked the extra point attempt to keep the lead, 7-6.

Later that quarter, Marsh intercepted a pass and ran 63 yards for a touchdown.

Olson, who was 9 of 17 for 129 yards, threw his second touchdown pass in the third when he connected with Brian Vukela for 19 yards.

The game's final score came in the fourth when Fulton tossed a 13-yard touchdown pass to Chris Washington for Penn Hills.

Bethel Park had a 290-147 advantage in total yards.

Penn Hills, which was plagued by three turnovers last week in a 45-17 loss at Gateway, had trouble keeping the football again last night, throwing two interceptions and losing two fumbles.

It's the second consecutive season Bethel Park has claimed a win at Penn Hills. The Black Hawks had a 27-24 win during the second week of last season.

Penn Hills is now 0-2 for the second consecutive season.
