Monday, September 01, 2008

WHEELING, W.Va. -- Defending WPIAL and PIAA Class AAA champion Thomas Jefferson (0-1) was simply overmatched today in a 34-13 loss against Glenville, a school from Cleveland, in the Friends of Coal Classic at Wheeling Island Stadium.

"We won't see a team like that in Pennsylvania, in Class AAA, all year," Thomas Jefferson coach Bill Cherpak said. "They were just way too much for us."

The Tarblooders got 39-yard and 46-yard touchdown catches from receiver Michael Edwards, and running back Robert Walton led the Ohio powerhouse with 134 yards rushing and one score.

Thomas Jefferson, which trailed 21-6 after halftime, was led by Brian Baldrige, who rushed for 78 yards and a score, and quarterback Tyler Wehner, who threw for 175 yards and a touchdown.
