A Lawrence County woman was killed yesterday when her car and a pickup truck crashed at an intersection in Union Township, police said.
Bernice Mahood, 83, of Edinburg, had been driving north on Old Youngstown Road at 1:11 p.m. when, after pausing at a stop sign, she proceeded into the intersection at Route 422, township police Chief Joseph Lombardo said.
Witnesses told police Ms. Mahood did not check for other traffic, and her car was struck broadside by a westbound pickup truck driven by Mary Jane Patton, 67, of McDonald.
Ms. Mahood was pronounced dead at the scene, Chief Lombardo said.
Ms. Patton was treated at a hospital for minor injuries, police said.
The fatality has been ruled accidental.
