Q: I saw your question and response last week about the Penn State-Pitt series. Don't you think that is selfish of Joe Paterno to keep that series from happening again because of his personal bitterness? He has taken one of the best rivalries away from all of us in the state. I think it hurts both programs. High school football players in this state should grow up dreaming of playing in that game. Maybe more would stay in state? A few more poor recruiting classes and maybe Penn State will get it. We can't beat Michigan, maybe we should try Pitt. I don't see what Coastal Carolina does for us. Jack Stonebreaker, Frogtown, Pa. MUSSELMAN: In the mid-1970s to early 1980s, the Pitt-Penn State series was one of the premier rivalries in college football. There was bitterness on both sides. Both programs also fielded some outstanding teams during that stretch. I am one who thinks the state ought to step in and make these two teams play again. I agree, I???d rather see Penn State play Pitt than Coastal Carolina or Florida International.
