Robbery foiled at betting parlor in Moon
Wednesday, August 13, 2008

Employees at an off-track betting parlor in Moon chased off a robber who was trying to break into the money room Monday night, police said.

At 10:56 p.m., Moon police were called to The Meadows-Moon Township off-track betting center.

Workers there told police they had confronted a man who was using bolt cutters to gain entry to the money room.

The man was wearing a ball cap, black wig and a black substance on his face, police said.

He ran from parlor employees before he was able to get to the cash.

Witnesses said the suspect drove away in a vehicle that police later found burning on Moon-Clinton Road.

Other witnesses said a man who fit the description of the robber started the fire and drove away in a silver-colored vehicle that had been waiting there.

Moon police said the first car had been stolen from Young's Auto Sales in Beaver County.

Anyone with information about the robbery or the car fire is asked to call Moon police at 412-262-5000.
