Dr. Jeffrey R. Gretz, an internist, has been elected to a two-year term as the president of the Canonsburg General Hospital medical staff. Serving as vice-president is internist Dr. Vincent J. Trapanotto. Cardiologist Dr. Christopher C. Allen will serve as secretary/treasurer.

The new chairman of the department of surgery is orthopedic surgeon Dr. Thomas A. Mutschler, and nephrologist Dr. James E. McCann will serve as the chairman of the department of medicine.

• Registered nurse Joy Bauer, of Canonsburg, has been appointed as nurse director at Canonsburg General Hospital's Two South.

Previously, she served as a physician extender for Waterdam Medical Associates.

• Anne Veres, of Canonsburg, has been appointed as the director of rehabilitation services for Canonsburg General Hospital. She received her master's of science degree in physical therapy from the University of Pittsburgh and a bachelor's of science degree in physical therapy from Slippery Rock University. Previously, she worked as a team leader in the physical therapy department at HCR Manor Care in McMurray.

• Canonsburg General Hospital has named two employees as winners of the Eutimio R. Vitullo scholarships. Each employee received a $200 scholarship to be used to pay a portion of tuition not covered by the hospital, or for books and other related educational materials.

The winners include Karen Clark, director of materials management. She is pursuing a master's degree in business administration at Waynesburg University. She has been an employee of the West Penn Allegheny Health System since 1995.

Also, Holly Levy, a staff nurse in the emergency department, is pursuing a master's of science in nursing degree from Duquesne University. She has been an employee since 1992.

The Eutimio R. Vitullo Scholarship Fund was established in November 1988 by the family of Eutimio R. Vitullo, a Canonsburg resident and board member of Canonsburg General Hospital.
