Two Ligonier Twp. teens killed in one-vehicle accident
Tuesday, July 15, 2008

Toxicology tests are being done on samples from two Westmoreland County men who were killed in a car crash over the weekend in Fairfield.

Brandon J. Boyd, 18, and Ross J. Gibson, 19, both of Ligonier Township, died early Sunday of multiple trauma after their vehicle crashed on Route 271.

The road runs past the residence of Mr. Boyd, who had been driving the car.

The Westmoreland County coroner said Mr. Boyd had been speeding south on Route 271 at 5:48 a.m. when his vehicle crossed the center line, struck a northbound guide rail, and went off the roadway.

Both occupants were ejected from the car, and their air bags did not deploy, the coroner said.

Both men were pronounced dead at the scene, Mr. Boyd at 7:26 a.m., and Mr. Gibson at 7:25 a.m.

State police are investigating the cause of the crash.
