Former Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra music director Mariss Jansons is recovering at home from an instance of heart arrhythmia that caused him to cancel his scheduled conducting of the Concertgebouw Orchestra in London this coming weekend. According to numerous Dutch media outlets, Jansons was sent to the Amsterdam Medical Center, evaluated and told he must rest.

PSO vice president for artistic planning Robert Moir, who talked with Jansons this week by phone, said Jansons is now resting at home. "They want me to take it easy this week," Jansons told Moir, who added that the conductor was already scheduled to go on summer vacation next week and "was in very good spirits."

In 1996, surgeons at Allegheny General Hospital implanted a defibrillator in Jansons, and doctors have continued to advise him to curtail his ambitious schedule. He is music director of the Concertgebouw Orchestra and the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra.

Actress Heather Locklear is seeking treatment for anxiety and depression, her publicist said yesterday in a statement.

"She requested an in-depth evaluation of her medication and entered into a medical facility for proper diagnosis and treatment. This is a confidential medical matter, and no further statement will be released," Sarah Fuller told The Associated Press.

People magazine's Web site reported that the 46-year-old actress checked into a facility in Arizona.

Locklear's divorce from Bon Jovi guitarist Richie Sambora was finalized in April 2007. They have a daughter, Ava Elizabeth. Locklear is reportedly dating former "Melrose Place" co-star Jack Wagner.

Boy George has been denied a U.S. visa, which puts an end to a planned summer tour by the Culture Club frontman.

The 47-year-old singer, whose real name is George O'Dowd, also had planned a free concert at the New York City Department of Sanitation's Family Day in August. He worked for the department in 2006 while performing court-ordered community service in a drug case.

But his managers said in a statement Monday that O'Dowd has been denied a visa because he's awaiting trial in London. The singer, whose hits include "Karma Chameleon," has pleaded not guilty to imprisoning a man at his London home.

The U.S. Department of State said visa records are confidential, so it couldn't comment.

"I am getting my life together and was really looking forward to performing in concert for all my loyal fans. I love America, and I am really sad that it appears that I am not allowed to visit a place I have called home at various times in my life," O'Dowd said in an e-mail to the AP.

Anne Hathaway apparently got smart when she broke up with Raffaello Follieri earlier this month.

The Italian businessman has been arrested on wire fraud conspiracy and money laundering charges. He is accused of falsely telling an investor that the Vatican had appointed him to manage its financial affairs, Manhattan prosecutors said.

Hathaway's publicist, Stephen Huvane, has previously stressed that the "Get Smart" and "Devil Wears Prada" star is not part of any probes and is no longer a board member of the Follieri Foundation.

Earlier this month, the New York state attorney general's office said it was investigating the foundation operated by Follieri, 29. The charity's work includes vaccinating children in Third World countries.

Because not a day goes by without a word about Britney Spears ...

Ms. Spears and a parenting coach were questioned yesterday by the L.A. court commissioner overseeing the singer's custody dispute, "resulting in an unspecified change in visitation status," AP reported. But TMZ says there's reason for the mother of Jayden James and Sean Preston to celebrate.

The gossip Web site says that progress has been made and that Commissioner Scott Gordon has agreed that she's ready to have her sons stay with her overnight.

Spears and ex-husband Kevin Federline, who has custody of the couple's two boys, appeared before Commissioner Gordon, who took the one-hour proceeding behind closed doors.

Spears' behavior was "very businesslike," court spokesman Allan Parachini said.

A status conference in the custody case is set for July 15.
