An Aliquippa man today was ordered held for trial on charges that he caused the scalding death of his 1-year-old daughter last month.

Troy Moon, 37, was returned to the Beaver County Prison, where he is being held without bail on charges of homicide, aggravated assault, reckless endangerment and two counts of child endangerment.

The charges stem from an incident in the early hours of April 19 in which his daughter, Trinity Moon, who turned a year old that day, was accidentally burned with boiling water.

The girl, with third-degree burns over 50 percent of her body, died April 23 in UPMC Mercy.

Initially the girl's mother, Delonda Tucker, 31, told police that she had accidentally spilled a pot of boiling water on the child while preparing a pasta dish just after midnight.

Ms. Tucker also was burned by the water, Aliquippa police Chief Ralph Pallante said.

However, the police investigation revealed that the couple had been arguing that evening in their Linmar Terrace apartment.

Towards the end of the dispute, Mr. Moon allegedly swiped at the pot on the stove, causing the water and a tray of food to spill.

Trinity had been nearby in a baby walker. Her 5-year-old sister, who also had been in the kitchen, was not injured.

Mr. Moon was arrested May 7 on the charges.

Chief Pallante said no charges are pending against Ms. Tucker for the erroneous initial report.
