An Erie man was killed Sunday night when his car left the road and crashed into a tree.

Chad A. Leuthold, 24, was driving east on Townhall Road in Summit Township when he lost control of his vehicle, which went off the road and along the berm for 334 feet before hitting the tree. The car then ignited, according to the state police. Mr. Leuthold was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Erie County coroner's office.

Police are investigating the accident.
