Ask Carley: Overcoming dance fright
Monday, May 05, 2008

Q: I have two left feet and I'm petrified about our first dance. Is there any way to avoid it?

A: There's no rule that says the bride and groom must have a first dance, though it is something that most guests (especially your parents) will enjoy watching.

Have you tried dance lessons? Ask the instructor to show you the simplest moves possible. Once you feel like you can handle those, then practice, practice, practice! The better you know your routine, the easier it will feel on the day.

If you're still worried about it, dance alone for a minute at the reception and then invite everyone onto the dance floor to share the spotlight. It's a great way to get your guests dancing the rest of the night.
