The first day of spring will be anything but mild with a warm breeze.
While yesterday featured a high of 58 degrees, the high temperature today is expected to be in the upper 30s. And with winds gusting up to 30 mph, it will feel more like in the 20s.
As spring officially sprung on the region at 1:48 a.m. today, a cool air front was expected to usher in steady rain with a changeover to snow showers later in the day, said Zaaron Allen, meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Moon.
"Maybe a coating here and there," Mr. Allen said. "It's not going to feel very spring-like. It will be cloudy with scattered snow showers in the morning and less in the afternoon."
It should be a bit warmer tomorrow .
The March showers have also brought the threat of flooding, and of course, the closing of the Mon Wharf parking lot. The lot was closed yesterday and may be closed through Monday, said David Onorato , executive director of the Pittsburgh Parking Authority. "It would depend on how much debris we get."
The parking lot floods when the Monongahela River reaches 18 feet. The river was expected to crest at 231/2 feet tomorrow morning.
