Last day of winter brings flood watch; Mon Wharf is closed
Wednesday, March 19, 2008

Finally it's the last day of winter.

And while spring arrives at 1:48 a.m. tomorrow, spring-like weather is the rule today.

Rain and fog are widespread across the region, putting a damper on the morning commute. Motorists are facing wet roadways, with areas of ponding water and plenty of runoff.

The Mon Wharf is closed to parking today in anticipation of rising rivers. All of Western Pennsylvania is under a flood watch through this evening.

The National Weather Service service said 1 to 2 inches of rain is possible with the ground already saturated from previous rain and snow melt. There also is a chance of thunderstorms today.

The rain, however, is expected to change to snow overnight with gusty winds to herald the arrival of spring tomorrow.

Check out the latest conditions and forecast. Commuters also can access the updated traffic conditions.
