Jeff Weaver, one of several free-agent pitchers the Pirates have pursued this offseason, agreed to terms with the Seattle Mariners on a one-year worth $8,325,000. That is the same salary he made last season with the Los Angeles Angels and St. Louis Cardinals.
He also can make up to $1 million in performance bonuses based on innings and starts.
The final three teams in the bidding for Weaver were the Pirates, Mariners and Cardinals, for whom Weaver was instrumental in winning the World Series last October.
Weaver, 30, was 8-14 with a 5.76 ERA last season.
