Pittsburgh Council President Doug Shields, of Squirrel Hill, said today that he will run in both the Democratic primary to defend his council seat and the citywide race for controller.

Allegheny County Prothonotary Michael Lamb, of Mount Washington, said he will formally announce his bid for city controller on Thursday.

They join Acting Controller Tony Pokora, of Banksville, in the race for the city's auditing and oversight job. Former County Commissioner Mike Dawida has been polling, and is considered a possible candidate, too.

Tom Fallon, of Morningside, a member of state Sen. Jim Ferlo's staff, said yesterday that he plans to run for the council seat held by Len Bodack. Pittsburgh School Board member Patrick Dowd is also challenging Mr. Bodack.

Bruce Kraus, of the South Side Flats, who ran for council last year, said he'll try again this year, challenging incumbent Jeff Koch.
