John Beale, 45, has been a Post-Gazette staff photographer since 1984. A 1979 graduate of Indiana University of Pennsylvania with a B.A. in Journalism, Beale has won numerous state and national awards. In 2001 he was the recipient of the American Society of Newspaper Editors' first "Community Service Photojournalism Award" for a photo essay on the diversity of religious worship in Western Pennsylvania.

Dennis B. Roddy, 48, is a columnist and staff writer for the Post-Gazette whose subjects have ranged from politics to the war in Northern Ireland. A 28-year veteran of newspaper work, Roddy is the winner of a number of state, local and national journalism awards. He joined the Post-Gazette in 1993.
